T
he rapid decline in the state of the earth's ecological environment has brought the issue of environmentally sustainable industrial development to the forefront of government and corporate agendas. Consequently, global environmental concerns, such as green house warming, ozone hole depletion, and biodiversity destruction have become important inputs for decision making at the firm level.

While industrial greening has been intensively discussed in the developed country contexts, in the context of the developing countries greening may differ in terms of methods as well as outcomes.

The issue of environment and industry competitiveness is particularly important in the case of developing countries such as India as several studies have pointed out that improvements in environmental performance can actually improve the overall performance of the industry, especially in view of the developments under WTO as well as other multilateral agreements.

Given the strategic importance of environmental management from a national perspective, it is necessary for the business schools in India to take a more proactive role in creating managers and business leaders who have a good understanding of how to incorporate environmental issues into corporate decision making. This site aims at strengthening the capacity of business schools in India to play a pivotal role in the greening of Indian industry.
